the Wizard of Oz in: OZZED!
The cold dark camp ground is empty except for the four high school girls and their leader. But this is no
girl scout adventure. These girls were caught with a joint and are forced here on a court-ordered mandate. Their drug counsellor,
Maddie, has her hands full with her reluctant charges: Cher, the alpha girl, spoiled Celeste, vain Bree, and hanger-on Holly.
While Maddie fields a lovers quarrel phone call, someone sneaks into camp unseen. Later, after their tough-love rations of
campfire stew, the girls and their leader retire to their tents, feeling queasy. They wake in a gloomy black and white chamber,
chained to the walls, no longer in "Kansas" anymore.
torturer, watching them unseen, is "Glynda", whose computerized voice explains they will play a game with four rounds.
After the 4th round, the winner will face their all-mighty tormentor's final question: "Why should I let you survive?"
Because on each round, someone will die.
The first game is an intelligence test. When Bree proves to be a closet genius, she is rewarded --
with flames that burn her to charcoal while the others watch, horrified. How about a little fire, Scarecrow?
On the second test, of the heart, Cher
and Celeste team up to save themselves by spilling the corrosive acid meant for them onto Holly, who melts away before them.
On the third test, of courage, it is
the loser who falls when Celeste flinches, catching the unwelcome attention of the poisonous snakes.
In the 4th round, "who wants to
go home the most", Maddie and Cher, nearly insane from fear and thirst, find a drink -- a ruby slipper full of poison.
Will one take the easy way out or force it down the other?
Throughout their struggles, their lives unravel, revealing the twisted relationships that
link each one in ways they didn't imagine, and the enemies each one has made along the way. Their only chance to survive is
to out-think their tormentor and find out what "Glynda" wants before it is too late.
Can anyone figure it out in time? Or is it true, that you can never go home
when there's no way, no hope, and nowhere over the rainbow.
