In 1977 at the age of 22 I left New York State for wilds of Alaska, which had only been a state for 18 years -- even younger than I was. I hoped to become a rural teacher but life took a different turn and I became a field geologist, exploring and mapping uncharted regions for the state.  "If at first you don't suceed, try something that's harder." Follow my journey through the wilderness and dangers in MIDNIGHT SUN, ARCTIC MOON: MAPPING THE WILD HEART OF ALASKA.

"A work of recent history, personal odyssey, hair-raising adventure and tall tale that just happens to be true, MIDNIGHT SUN, ARCTIC MOON is a winner."
.
"This is a book I would give to my daughter and say, 'Permission to dream, granted.' "

Among the old photos and slides I chased around the dusty tucked-away corners of my house to include in the book, I found the little tape of the music I composed and recorded for our hill-top wedding back in 1979 in a log ski lodge on Ester Dome, high above Fairbanks. The lodge is gone now, but the gentle melody of "Ester Dome Majesty" remains and reminds me of that shimmering Spring day with the wide wind-swept views from the top of the world.

Recorded in Fairbanks in 1979 and remastered years later at Abbey Road Studio in London.
